In the second half of the 19th century, a new technology was invented in France that made possible the production of tiles in quantity, without the need to burn them in order to achieve the required strength. The use of cement-based tiles became widespread throughout Europe at the same time. The favourable technical and aesthetic properties of hydraulically pressed cement tiles led to rapid progress in their production and their widespread use. In Hungary, cement products also began to be produced in the same period, their emergence was due to the rapidly developing industrialization and urbanization.
